Rounding out our vocal set is ABBA’s “Dancing Queen”! Released in 1976, it became the band’s only number 1 hit in the US and even 50 years later it’s still guaranteed to get the audience on their feet at our outreach concerts! We always have a blast putting our spin on these vintage pop tunes, but this one is especially fun to play!

There’s nothing quite like “Mr. Blue Sky” by Electric Light Orchestra to brighten a feed. Fun fact: Jeff Lynne wrote it after spending days locked in a misty Swiss chalet, and when the fog finally broke into a blue sky, this musical burst of pure sunshine came pouring out and the rest is history!

We’re bringing the groove with “Love Never Felt So Good,” the Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake duet! Here’s a little bit of history for your next trivia night: MJ originally recorded this track all the way back in 1983, but it wasn’t released until 2014 on the posthumous album Xscape over three decades
later!

It might be morning when we post this, but you know what they say, “It’s night time somewhere!” So here’s a little night music for your feed!

This is the first movement of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Eine kleine Nachtmusik,” one of the most instantly recognizable pieces ever written. Fun fact, Mozart wrote this in 1787, but it wasn’t published until 1827, over 30 years after Mozart’s death! Additionally, Mozart originally listed the piece as having 5 movements, but only 4 were published, with the second movement - “Minuet and Trio” - having disappeared. In any case, we are happy that the rest of the piece survived, but it’s a shame we’ll never hear the full piece as Mozart intended it!

As for this performance, Rachel joins our Violinist (Yunhee Ahn), Violist (Asli Özek) and Cellist (Youbin Jun) to play the 1st Violin part on Flute!

If you can hit that high note in the chorus, you are a true karaoke legend! We love this arrangement of one of the all-time great earworms: “Take On Me” by A-ha! Here we are featuring drums, violin, viola, cello, keyboard and of course vocals!

This tune always gets the people out of their seats at our outreach concerts! What’s your favorite “vintage” pop song? Maybe we’ll cover it next!

Once Upon a Dream… is not the name of this piece!

Today, we’re actually going back to the Disney song’s original inspiration, Tchaikovsky’s “Grande valse villageoise” (also known as the Garland Waltz) from his ballet The Sleeping Beauty which first premiered back in 1890. It’s easy to see why Disney borrowed the theme for their own Sleeping Beauty release in 1959; you just can’t beat that melody!

Our arrangement brings this classic waltz to life with violin, viola, cello, and piano!

You know what they say, “Shoot for the Moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the Starlight Zones…” so beautiful 🥲

“Starlight Zone” was composed by Masato Nakamura from the band “Dreams Come True,” for the original Sonic the Hedgehog release on the Sega Genesis. This always strikes us as an almost wistful track, that gains a sense of hope and forward momentum as the energy builds. It’s a surprisingly complicated music track for a character not necessarily known for his emotional complexity. Do you have to go fast Sonic? Do you?

Anyway, the fun part: last time we played this, it was a funky electric setup with drums, keyboard, electric bass, and alto sax. This arrangement by @rachel_jeeyoung rebuilds it for violin, viola, cello and piano! Go check out the previous version (scroll down on our page) and compare the two! Last stop on the DuckTales runway! ✈️

We’re closing out our DuckTales set with the shortest (but no less delightful) of the bunch: “Gyro’s Flying Machine.” Originally composed by Hiroshige Tonomura, it’s a hidden gem (on a level that gives you gems!) and you can only hear it if you exit a stage with $7X,XXX!

This arrangement comes courtesy of @projectfusionsq ‘s own @dannelophone , with Dannel himself on soprano sax! The piece serves as a quick saxophone interlude before moving on to “The Moon,” where the rest of the larger ensemble joins back in!

We’re keeping the Zelda train rolling! ✨

You know we can’t stay away from Hyrule for long, so we’re back with one of the most beloved themes in the entire series: “Great Fairy Fountain.” Originally composed by Koji Kondo, this little melody has appeared in nearly every Zelda game since A Link to the Past and we hope to hear it in many more Zelda releases!

This lush arrangement by @rachel_jeeyoung utilizes the full Good Beats ensemble with flute, strings, piano, drum set, as well as a full saxophone quartet (soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone!) A big thank you to @projectfusionsq for joining us!

While Boss Battles in the DuckTales video game weren’t exactly the most difficult of challenges, the “Boss Battle” music certainly brought the heat! For this theme @projectfusionsq takes the wheel, and lays down a cool groove while showing off their slap tonguing!

DuckTales’s music was originally composed by Hiroshige Tonomura and this arrangement was created by Project Fusion’s own @dannelophone with additional help from @josh_mallard in the expanded instrumentation sections. Have you played DuckTales? Let us know down in the comments below!

The storm has returned! 🌧️⚡

We couldn’t help but to revisit one of our absolute favorite pieces: “Song of Storms” from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Originally composed by Koji Kondo, this track really set the bar high for musical storytelling in gaming!
This arrangement by @rachel_jeeyoung (the flute player in this video!) brings the classic melody to life in a new way, blending woodwinds, strings, and percussion for a truly unique sound.

Who went and saw “The Mandalorian and Grogu” over the long weekend? We did! And we have to say that Ludwig Göransson’s score is just as beautiful and compelling as it was in “The Mandalorian” show. Listening to the theme evolve and change over the course of the film was so fun! It always seems to perfectly capture the character of each scene. Written by @ludwiggoransson , the main theme so perfectly captures the cinematic journey of the Mandalorian and Grogu’s journey across the galaxy. We hope you enjoy this re-imagining of the piece by our chamber ensemble, featuring flutes, saxophones, strings, piano, and percussion in a unique arrangement. This one’s for all the Final Fantasy VIII fans out there! “Eyes On Me” was composed by Nobuo Uematsu for the game’s release back in 1999. The main melody of the piece plays throughout the game whenever Squall and Rinoa have a romantic scene together. And while we don’t have a vocalist as part of our arrangement for this song, that just means you will have to sing along at home while @mattviolin01 plays the melody!

This performance was from our collaboration with @projectfusionsq at the Atlas Performing Arts Center @atlaspacdc last month! It was a great time and we can’t wait to go back! Make sure to follow to find out about our upcoming live shows!

Time for some Jazz VGM! You know we always love going back to an old favorite; this is the “Overworld Theme” from “Super Mario 2!” Composed by Kōji Kondō for the game’s release back in 1988. It’s always so much fun hearing these old 8-bit tunes get brought to life with a full ensemble. We love how this section was reimagined as amazing piano and flute solos!

This excellent arrangement was written for our Octet (Ft: Flute, Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, Bass, Piano and Percussion) by Jake Bay and is one of our favorite pieces to perform live. Please enjoy this performance from our show at @atlaspacdc !

We’re “queuing” up one of our favorite pieces today! Composed by Masashi Hamauzu, “Blinded by Light” is the primary battle theme in Final Fantasy XIII and it’s theme also functions as a leitmotif for Lightning throughout the game!

While we always love performing the arrangement of this track written for our normal Good Beats Octet (flute, violin 1/2, viola, cello, bass, piano, percussion) by the incredible Jake Bay, this is our first time performing the extended arrangement that also features the amazing saxophonists of @projectfusionsq

The adventure begins with the Title Theme ⚔️✨

Originally composed by Koji Kondo for The Legend of Zelda, this iconic melody first appeared in 1986 and has since become one of the most recognizable themes in all of gaming. With its bold, triumphant opening and sense of wide-open exploration, it perfectly sets the tone for Link’s journey — inviting players into a world of courage, mystery, and adventure.

Interestingly, Koji Kondo initially considered using Boléro by Maurice Ravel as the game’s theme, but when it turned out to still be under copyright at the time, he composed an original piece instead — giving us the legendary theme we know today.

A fun detail: many fans love how African Mines feels almost percussive in its writing — the melody and rhythm are so tightly interlocked that it creates a groove you can’t help but lock into, especially impressive given the NES’s limited sound design.

To celebrate the release of the new Super Mario Galaxy movie today 🚀 here’s a performance by our Good Beats Ensemble!

Originally composed by Mahito Yokota (with contributions from Koji Kondo) for Super Mario Galaxy, this fan-favorite track debuted in 2007 and quickly became one of the most beloved pieces in Nintendo’s musical history. Known for its soaring melodies and full orchestral sound, it marked a major shift for the Mario series — being one of the first to feature a live symphony orchestra throughout the game.

Fun fact: Gusty Garden Galaxy weaves together musical ideas from earlier in the game, creating a sense of familiarity while still feeling expansive and new — perfectly capturing the feeling of exploring the stars.

This incredible arrangement by Jake Bay brings a fresh energy to the piece, featuring flute, violin, cello, double bass, keyboard, and drums — blending cinematic warmth with a modern, rhythmic drive.

Few melodies are as instantly recognizable as Song of Storms 🌧️⚡

We had the incredible opportunity to perform Song of Storms from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time alongside Project Fusion at the Atlas Performing Arts Center — and the energy in the room was unreal.

Originally composed by Koji Kondo for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998), this piece has become one of the most iconic themes in video game history. Its hypnotic, looping melody perfectly captures the feeling of an endless storm — playful, chaotic, and a little mysterious.

One of the coolest details? The song exists within a time loop in the game’s story — you learn it from a character who only knows it because you played it in the past. A musical paradox that makes the piece even more unforgettable.

Together, we packaged 30,000 meals for families and children in need around the world 🌍📦

We’re especially proud of our Good Beats family — 40 volunteers showed up ready to make a difference! 🙌 And compared to last year, we achieved about a 30% increase (from 23,000 to 30,000 meals!) — an incredible milestone made possible by your time, energy, and heart.

Who’s addicted to Pokémon Pokopia? Is it too early to say game of the year? We certainly know what we would cast our votes for! And since we love all things Pokémon here at Good Beats, we couldn’t help but add the Pokémon Theme song to our outreach concerts for the month!

The Pokémon Theme Song was written by John Loeffler and John Siegler and recorded by Jason Paige in 1998 and 1999 (for the extended version) and has lived in the hearts of every Millennial and Gen Z child that grew up watching it ever since!
